SearchInWeb is a spyware data miner disguised as a toolbar browser add-on. It was first discovered on July 28 of 2005. It was originally published through http://www.searchinweb.com/, but that site has been removed.
SearchInWeb, like other toolbar spyware and adware programs, pretends to offer enhanced search results and instant click access to certain websites. In this case, they all point to http://www.searchinweb.com/ and its subpages.
Thanks to the Google toolbar, the ability to do web page searches from any website is already possible. By and large, the instant access by clicking on a button is pointless. That is, unless you’re interested in online gambling and shopping. The caveat here is that these sponsored websites are possibly fraudulent.
Besides the basic uselessness of this program, it also collects information on your browsing habits and the web pages you visit. It does this by keystroke logging and doing screen captures while you’re surfing the Internet. This presents a serious threat to your privacy, since it’s possible to capture credit card and login information this way.
SearchInWeb also runs several invisible processes. This activity seriously slows down your computer’s performance speed and causes system instability. It uses an inordinate amount of your computer’s resources by doing this, and it can lead to system crashes.
