Smart Protector is a rogue security application that has very invasive means of advertising. One form of promotion it uses is to simply download itself onto a computer through a Trojan horse. Its more popular means of promotion is through the use of fake online scanners. When a user lands on one of its scanner sites, a fake scan of the user’s system is performed in seconds. They are then told that their computer is infected with malware and are redirected to a download page.
Smart Protector stole its name from Smart Protector Pro, which is a legitimate security app. Do not download this fraud, and if it has already infected your computer, then, remove it immediately. In order to remove it manually, start by stopping the following processes:

uninstall.exe
Relative file contents:
config.cnf, mainbase.adb, q.adb, queue.vdb, smartprotector.exe, uninstall.exe, virusbase.adb, internet.dll, Smart Protector.lnk, Uninstall.lnk
Then, delete these registry values:

Unregister this DLL:
internet.dll
Delete these files:
config.cnf
mainbase.adb
q.adb
queue.vdb
smartprotector.exe
uninstall.exe
virusbase.adb
internet.dll
Smart Protector.lnk
Uninstall.lnk
Finally, delete these directories:
c:\Program Files\Smart Protector
c:\Program Files\Smart Protector\quarantine
c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Index\Drivers
%UserProfile%\Start Menu\Programs\Smart Protector
