addr.dll Error Fix

What is addr.dll?

The Address Book module created by Sun Microsystems makes use of the addr.dll module to enable its various functions including storing, editing and tracking information on customers, employees, vendors, and resellers. The Address Book serves as a primary source for customer data.

There are several address book types supported by the Windows OS. There is the LDAP or Lightweight Directory Access Protocol which is an application protocol used for querying and modifying directory services running over Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) or Internet Protocol (IP). The directory can be described as a set of objects organized in a logical and hierarchical manner similar to a telephone directory.

The LDAP calls the addr.dll module when the clients request any of the following directory service operations start Transport Layer Security to protect the directory connection, search and retrieve directory, compare name entries in the directory, delete directory entries, add directory entries, and modify directory entries.

Another Address Book type supported by Windows is the WAB or Windows Address Book which allows users to have a single list of contacts that may be shared with multiple programs. The addr.dll module is used by the WAB Application program Interface in querying LDAP servers or reading and writing data in a .wab file format.

Some other Address Book types supported by windows that query the addr.dll module are local address book and Outlook Personal Address Book (PAB).

The above Address Book types are also available for Mozilla platforms. The Sun Microsoft Systems Company provides a way for Mozilla mail clients to have address book access using XPCOM. XPCOM or Cross platform component model is used as an adaptor to Outlook and Outlook Express address books. It also supports the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) address book using its XPCOM LDAP components.

Suggested fix if you are experiencing addr.dll error messages:

DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files contain computer code and resources that can be used by multiple programs at the same time. This uses less system memory and helps your computer system run more efficiently. DLL files give program developers the ability to reuse code to add features to several programs without the need to write new code for each program.

There are many programs that require DLL files to function properly so when one of them is damaged or missing it will cause program crashes and poor system performance.

To fix these problems the user must replace the damaged file with a valid working version. If a working version cannot be found the user may perform a reinstallation of their operating system.
