We Solve Avgmail.dll Errors

The avgmail.dll file contains the AVG Anti-Virus software’s E-Mail Parsing component. It is traditionally bundled with the AVG software and is used by the e-mail scanning engine for examining incoming or outgoing e-mails on a computer. The avgmail.dll file is a core component of the software and it is always called by default but could also be turned off from the application’s programming interface as the user wishes.

The avgmail.dll file is called by the Personal E-mail Scanner plug-in which automatically scans all the incoming or outgoing e-mails. It can be used with other e-mail clients that do not have an AVG e-mail scanning plug-in. The avgmail.dll module can be called by Microsoft Outlook Express, Mozilla browser, or other e-mail client applications.

The avgmail.dll component works between the e-mail client and the e-mail servers on the Internet. The e-mail client sends a request to the API to retrieve the e-mail from the server and then the avgmail.dll module tests it for viruses. The AVG software removes the infected attachments, adds certification, and only then is the message passed to requesting computer.

For outgoing mail the message is sent directly and parsed by the avgmail.dll module – testing the message along with its attachments for viruses and then sends the message to the e-mail server. The outgoing e-mail scanning is disabled by default though as the system where the e-mail came from was already tested by the Anti-Virus software and any infected file would automatically be blocked.

The avgmail.dll module also provides automatic filtering of the e-mail attachment based on the file extension type. It particularly parses through attached files with the extensions such as.exe, .scr, .bat, .reg, etc. as these are files considered to be very easily used for deployment of malicious content. The avgmail.dll module proves to be very important for the general security of the system as it protects the system even before any malevolent code enters.

What is a DLL?

Your operating system comes pre-installed with Microsoft DLL’s and most third party programs also install DLL’s.

DLL (Dynamic Link Library) is Microsoft’s implementation of the shared library concept. Meaning there’s a DLL library on your computer and each DLL can be shared among different Microsoft and third party programs. This shared library method helps your computer run faster by having fewer operations running at the same time.

When a DLL is missing or corrupt it may show an error message and programs may fail or crash.

Because DLL’s are shared, one missing or corrupt DLL may affect multiple programs on your computer.
