cdfview.dll Error Fix Download

The cdfview.dll process enables you to view files in Channel Definition Format. This DLL can be found on Microsoft XP SP2 which uses Internet Explorer 6.0. It is no longer available on Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 7.0 or later.

Internet Explorer uses the cdfview.dll file in order to use the Active Channel as well as the Smart Offline Favorites features. Active Channel was introduced on Internet Explorer 4.0 which allows websites to be listed and syndicated. On the other hand the Smart Offline Favorites is a feature of Internet Explorer 5.0 which provides users to view web pages from the cache.

The Channel Definition Format or CDF lets the user create a file that defines a Web channel which is a preselected Web site or group of related Web sites. The CDF file recognizes the Web page and subpages which the user sees after selecting a channel on the Web browser. The file also identifies subpages which may be selected from the main channel page.

The CDF defines the website’s content and structure. Channel developer uses it by putting the CDF and the file cdfview.dll on their Web server. When a user clicks on a channel it actually specifies the Uniform Resource Locator or the Internet file name of the CDF that defines the channel.

The cdfview.dll application supports the Extensible Markup Language (XML) which Microsoft is proposing as a standard way to describe Web site channels. CDF is somewhat similar to Really Simple Syndication (RSS) standard introduced by Netscape. Unlike RSS though the idea of Active channels was not widely accepted and its use is still very limited until now. That is why the current version of Microsoft has removed the CDF support.

What is a DLL?

DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files contain computer code and resources that can be used by multiple programs at the same time. This uses less system memory and helps your computer system run more efficiently. DLL files give program developers the ability to reuse code to add features to several programs without the need to write new code for each program.

There are many programs that require DLL files to function properly so when one of them is damaged or missing it will cause program crashes and poor system performance.
