Cdosys.dll PC Error Solution

The Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) is a technology designed to simplify the creation of messaging applications. As part of the Microsoft Exchange Server, it has evolved from what Microsoft formerly called the Object Linking and Embedding Messaging and, more recently, Active Messaging.

The cdosys.dll module is the CDO for Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 Server. This DLL is the best application for sending email from Active Server Pages (ASP) because it is installed on both operating systems by default. Using the cdosys.dll application on ASP technology allows developers to access the Global Address List and other server objects. This is in addition to the contents of the mailboxes and public folders.

It also allows Web site builders to write scripts that will exchange e-mail and collaborate in discussions with users or with other Web sites.

Some configuration is required to use the cdosys.dll file with a remote SMTP server. The Configuration object is created, populated with configuration information, and then associated with a Message object by using the objCDO.Configuration property. On the other hand, the SMTP server name, the SMTP connection timeout, and the cdoSendUsingPort are the only credentials needed.

The cdosys.dll process uses three different methods of sending email. The first method is sending email by using a local pickup directory in which you have the IIS SMTP Virtual Server running on a local development machine. Any emails you send from your scripts put an .EML file in the local pickup directory. The second method involves mail forwarding on port 25, which includes the metatype library code on the page.

The last method includes sending the email using a remote mail server. This supports outgoing SMTP authentication should your server require that for outgoing emails. This method is also the best method to use because you are using a real email server with valid MX records.

The cdosys.dll file provides greater support for MIME messages. It also supports selection among multiple SMTP configurations as well as server events. This DLL can be run on the client side. The cdosys.dll process requires Windows 2000 and either a local or remote SMTP Server.

There are 2 ways to install the cdosys.dll application. One is through a stand-alone version while the other way is to install it as a component of Microsoft Outlook. These two installations cannot co-exist in the same machine.

What is a DLL?

Your operating system comes pre-installed with Microsoft DLL’s and most third party programs also install DLL’s.

DLL (Dynamic Link Library) is Microsoft’s implementation of the shared library concept. Meaning there’s a DLL library on your computer and each DLL can be shared among different Microsoft and third party programs. This shared library method helps your computer run faster by having fewer operations running at the same time.

When a DLL is missing or corrupt it may show an error message and programs may fail or crash.

Because DLL’s are shared, one missing or corrupt DLL may affect multiple programs on your computer.
