Dbnetlib.dll Errors Solved

The Microsoft SQL Server is a relational database management system (RDBMS) that supports a superset of the most common database language. Its primary query language is Transact-SQL, which is an implementation of the ANSI/ISO standard, the Structured Query Language or SQL. Microsoft SQL belongs to Microsoft Corporation.

However it is also used by Sybase Inc. Sybase is the largest global enterprise software company that focuses on management and mobilization of information from the data center to the point of action.

One of the core components of Microsoft SQL Server is the Winsock Oriented Net Dynamic Link Library designed for SQL Clients, the dbnetlib.dll module. This DLL is most commonly found on version 8.0 of the software under the subfolder of C:/ Windows/ system32.

The dbnetlib.dll process has the ability to send keep-alive TCP/IP packets to Microsoft SQL Server in order to maintain the connection. This is the reason why when you access a dialup connection, the connection does not disconnect even after the timeout expires.

The dbnetlib.dll file sets the KeepAliveTime and the KeepAliveInterval registry setting in the underlying TCP/IP socket layer with some hard-coded values. These registry subkeys can be found in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ SOFTWARE/ Microsoft/ MSSQLServer/ Client/ SuperSocketNetLib/ TCP of the system registry.

Microsoft created an extension to Microsoft SQL Server designed for developers who target Microsoft Windows mobile-based services. The DLL dbnetlib.dll is associated with this mobile database solution called Microsoft SQL Server Mobile Edition. The SQL Server Mobile is a powerful tool for developing mobile applications.

With the use of the dbnetlib.dll file it provides a development model and API consistent with the SQL Server supported by the SQL syntax. The dbnetlib.dll also helps in developing and installing applications based on mobile devices.

The dbnetlib.dll file is also part of Microsoft Data Access Components. MDAC is a collection of components that allow access to data repositories such as SQL. The dbnetlib.dll acts as the layer that implements network connectivity including TCP/IP in communicating with the database server. MDAC ships as part of Windows operating system.

What is a DLL?

Your operating system comes pre-installed with Microsoft DLL’s and most third party programs also install DLL’s.

DLL (Dynamic Link Library) is Microsoft’s implementation of the shared library concept. Meaning there’s a DLL library on your computer and each DLL can be shared among different Microsoft and third party programs. This shared library method helps your computer run faster by having fewer operations running at the same time.

When a DLL is missing or corrupt it may show an error message and programs may fail or crash.

Because DLL’s are shared, one missing or corrupt DLL may affect multiple programs on your computer.
