Drmclien.dll Computer Error Solution

The DRM or Digital Rights Management refers to access control technologies used by publishers and copyright holders to limit the use of digital media or devices. It also refers to restrictions connected with specific instances of specific devices by preventing access, copying or conversion by end users to other formats.

The Windows Media DRM is a flexible platform that makes it possible to protect and securely deliver content by subscription. It can also be an individual request for playback on a computer, portable device or network devices. The drmclien.dll module manages the Windows Media DRM system.

The DLL drmclien.dll packages the digital media file. The packaged file is encrypted and locked with a key which is stored in an encrypted license and is distributed separately. Other information is added to the digital media file including the URL where the license can be acquired. The packaged file is saved in WMV or WMA format. For purposes of encryption and decryption the drmclien.dll module implements the following functions:

* Encrypt

* CDRMLiteCrypto::EncryptFast

* CDRMLiteCrypto::EncryptIndirectFast

* Decrypt

* CanDecryptEx

* CanDecrypt

To play a packaged digital media file the user must first acquire a license key to unlock the file. The process of acquiring a license begins automatically when the user attempts to acquire the packaged digital media file, acquires a pre-delivered license or plays the file for the first time.

The drmclien.dll file either sends the user to a registration page where information is requested or payment is required or “silently” retrieves a license from a clearinghouse. For purposes of acquiring licenses for these protected files the following functions are called:

* RequestLicense, ProcessResponse, GenerateNewLicense

* GetPMLicenseFileName, GetPMLicenseSize, CreatePMLicense

* CDRMLiteCrypto::CreatePMLicenseForJD

* CDRMLiteCrypto::GenerateNewLicenseEx

* CDRMLiteCrypto::BackupLicenses

* CDRMLiteCrypto::RestoreLicenses

* CDRMLiteCrypto::GetLicenses

The content provider chooses a license clearing house that stores the specific rights or rules of the license and implements the Windows DRM License Service. The role of the clearinghouse is to authenticate the consumer’s request for a license. Digital media files and licenses are distributed and stored separately making it easier to manage the DRM entire system.

What is a DLL?

Your operating system comes pre-installed with Microsoft DLL’s and most third party programs also install DLL’s.

DLL (Dynamic Link Library) is Microsoft’s implementation of the shared library concept. Meaning there’s a DLL library on your computer and each DLL can be shared among different Microsoft and third party programs. This shared library method helps your computer run faster by having fewer operations running at the same time.

When a DLL is missing or corrupt it may show an error message and programs may fail or crash.

Because DLL’s are shared, one missing or corrupt DLL may affect multiple programs on your computer.
