Dsproxy.dll Error Solution

The file dsproxy.dll is a component of two server-based programs developed by Microsoft Corporation which are the Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition and the Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition. The dsproxy.dll module was initially released on June 3 2003 along with its two housing programs.

The module dsproxy.dll was best described as “Microsoft Exchange Proxy Directory Service” which is an integral component that enables the network capabilities of these programs. Directory Service (DS) is a set of applications that stores and organizes information about users and resources within a network.

The Directory Service simplifies the task of network administrators in managing users access to information within the network of computers available in a workgroup. Initially the dsproxy.dll module has two basic functions when it is called by the housing program: 1) it allows the emulation of MAPI address book service and possible proxy requests to an Active Directory server and 2) it provides a form of referral infrastructure for Microsoft Outlook clients to directly contact Active Directory servers.

The dsproxy.dll module contains two main extension functions both of which are used by the housing programs. These include _StartDsProxy@40 and _StopDsProxy@4. Dependency modules for the dsproxy.dll file are as follows: advapi32.dll, dsaccess.dll, kernel32.dll, msvcp60.dll, msvcrt.dll, netapi32.dll, rpcrt4.dll and ws2_32.dll.

Most of these DLLs are network-related allowing the transmission and receiving functions of the housing program to be enabled.

What is a DLL?

Your operating system comes pre-installed with Microsoft DLL’s and most third party programs also install DLL’s.

DLL (Dynamic Link Library) is Microsoft’s implementation of the shared library concept. Meaning there’s a DLL library on your computer and each DLL can be shared among different Microsoft and third party programs. This shared library method helps your computer run faster by having fewer operations running at the same time.

When a DLL is missing or corrupt it may show an error message and programs may fail or crash.

Because DLL’s are shared, one missing or corrupt DLL may affect multiple programs on your computer.
