We Solve Efsadu.dll Errors

The main function of efsadu.dll is to provide support for file encryption in the EFS or Encrypting File System.

EFS is a file system driver with file system encryption available in Microsoft Windows operating systems (OS), except for Windows XP Home Edition, Windows Vista Basic and Windows Vista Home Premium. This technology allows files to be encrypted on NTFS file systems with the use of modules such as the efsadu.dll file.

This in effect protects confidential data from potential hackers with physical access to the computer. Protection is done via user authentication and control lists which in turn protect files from unauthorized access while the OS is running.

Moreover the efsadu.dll file aids in storing files encrypted on the disks of the computer by using public key cryptography. The encryption of files using the efsadu.dll module is as strong as the password that unlocks the decryption key. Since the efsadu.dll file also works as a file encryption utility it thus supports encrypting multiple files all at the same time.

The EFS starts with encrypting a file with a symmetric key also known as the File Encryption Key or FEK that is only possible through the efsadu.dll file. It uses a symmetric encryption algorithm because it takes a relatively smaller amount of time to encrypt and decrypt large amounts of data than if an asymmetric key cipher is used.

This makes the process of file encryption faster with the efsadu.dll.

The FEK is then encrypted with a public key again with the help of the efsadu.dll file as it is associated with the user who encrypted the file and this is stored in the alternate data stream of the encrypted file. On the other hand the efsadu.dll module uses the private key to decrypt the symmetric key that is stored in the data stream.

Folders whose contents are to be encrypted by the file system are marked with an encryption attribute and once they are already ready to be encrypted the efsadu.dll file comes into play.

The current version of the efsadu.dll file is dependent on the following: the mfc42u.dll file, the msvcrt.dll file, the kernel32.dll file, the user32.dll file, the advapi32.dll file, the cryptui.dll file and the crypt32.dll file.

What is a DLL?

Your operating system comes pre-installed with Microsoft DLL’s and most third party programs also install DLL’s.

DLL (Dynamic Link Library) is Microsoft’s implementation of the shared library concept. Meaning there’s a DLL library on your computer and each DLL can be shared among different Microsoft and third party programs. This shared library method helps your computer run faster by having fewer operations running at the same time.

When a DLL is missing or corrupt it may show an error message and programs may fail or crash.

Because DLL’s are shared, one missing or corrupt DLL may affect multiple programs on your computer.
