esent.dll error information

What is a DLL?

DLL stands for Dynamic Link Library and it is a file that contains computer code and resources that can be used by multiple programs at the same time. This uses less system memory and makes your system more efficient. DLL files allow program developers to reuse code in several different programs to add features without having to write new code for each one.

There are many programs that rely on DLL files to function properly so when one is corrupted or missing it will cause  poor system performance and program crashes.

What is esent.dll?

The ESE Runtime (esent.dll) has been a part of Windows since Windows 2000 and is an ISAM (Indexed Sequential Method) data storage technology from Microsoft. Esent.dll is part of the Extensible Storage Engine (ESE) that is also known as Jet Blue. ESE caches data intelligently to guarantee high performance access to data making ESE suitable for server applications.

The logging and recovery feature of ESE supports guaranteed data integrity and consistency in the event of a system crash. The process of redundantly recording database update operations in a log file is Logging. The log file structure is very effective against system crashes. Using the log created to restore databases to a consistent state after a system crash is known as crash recovery.

ESE supports on-line backup where one or more databases are copied along with log files in a way that doesn’t affect the operations of the database. Databases can be queried and updated while the backup is being made.

JET Blue should not be confused with JET Red. Jet Red is a file sharing technology while ESE is designed to be embedded into a server application and does not share files. Jet Red uses best effort file recovery while ESE uses write ahead logging and snapshot isolation for guaranteed crash recovery.

When a DLL file is damaged or missing it will cause error messages and program crashes. To fix these issues the damaged or missing DLL file must be replaced with a working version. If a working version can not be found you may also perform a clean installation of your operating system.
