mscat32.dll Error Fix
What is a DLL?
DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files contain computer code and resources that can be used by multiple programs at the same time. This uses less system memory and helps your computer system run more efficiently. DLL files give program developers the ability to reuse code to add features to several programs without the need to write new code for each program.
There are many programs that require DLL files to function properly so when one of them is damaged or missing it will cause program crashes and poor system performance.
What is mscat32.dll?
The mscat32.dll module makes use of the makecat Script that is designed to set-up a catalog based on the server configuration. The mscat32.dll module runs on a 32-bit platform and asks the user for parameters like the directories to use, the URL for which to base the catalog, HTTP server definitions and file ownership.
The mscat32.dll file supplies the needs of the makecat script for a template where the catalog can operate on. However, the file supports only the construction of the catalog once and if further configuration needs to be done by the user the catalog directory must be edited first.
The catalog template supported by the mscat32.dll file contains an image of a configured catalog. It could be apparent that the catalogs created are almost the same except that certain macro strings have been replaced with answers supplied to the script.
Normally the files should not be edited in the template directory. If the user wants to try creating a customized template it is recommended to name it something besides simple and copy the simple demo directory to it as a starting point. Templates are usually located in the base directory. However they can also be located in multiple locations. The makecat script will prompt the mscat32.dll file for location if it cannot find a template.
Apart from the usual parameters asked for by the makecat scripts the mscat32.dll folder contains functions like additionalfields for which files with more parameters are readied for macro substitution. The folder also contains the additionalhelp command that extends description for the additionalfields. Added to these the file mscat32.dll carries a precopy command. One that passes to the system prior to catalog copy. And lastly the DLL has a postcopy command used to pass to the system after the catalog copy.
