ntdsa.dll Error Fix

What is a DLL?

DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files contain computer code and resources that can be used by multiple programs at the same time. This uses less system memory and helps your computer system run more efficiently. DLL files give program developers the ability to reuse code to add features to several programs without the need to write new code for each program.

There are many programs that require DLL files to function properly so when one of them is damaged or missing it will cause program crashes and poor system performance.

What is ntdsa.dll?

Ntdsa.dll is a part of the Active Directory data store which is made of several components providing directory services to clients and other directory servers. These components include the directory database where the actual data is stored, three service components, and four interfaces.

The Directory System Agent is one of the three service components mentioned above. It runs as the ntdsa.dll module on every domain controller providing the interface through which the directory clients and other directory servers acquire access to the directory database. The ntdsa.dll contains a database layer, an API (Application Programming Interface) that interfaces between the database directory, and applications in order to offer protection to the database from directly interacting with the querying applications.

The application calls do not go directly to the database, instead they are interpreted through a database layer. Due to the directory database being flat, without any namespace hierarchy, an abstraction of an object hierarchy is provided by the database layer to the database.

The ntdsa.dll file is a part of the Local Security Authority process that manages the authentication packages as well as authenticates users and services. Running the ntdsa.dll file in the isass.exe application enables the Active Directory to secure sensitive information like account passwords with extra care.

Apart from providing interfaces for directory clients to access directory data, the ntdsa.dll module also offers the following functions:

* Object identification – enables hierarchy navigation for the purpose of display.

* Schema enforcement – ensures that the data in the directory adheres to the data definitions provided by the directory schema.

* Access control enforcement – puts into force, security limits within the directory, brought about by reading the Security Identifier (SID)

* Support for replication – initiates replication in the DSA

* Referrals – responsible for cross references between domain objects in the active directory.

* Functional levels – identifies the operating system version through its built-in numeric value

Suggested fix if you are experiencing ntdsa.dll error messages:

DLL files are important parts of your operating system and many programs require them to function. When these files become damaged or are missing it causes poor system performance and system crashes. To fix these problems the user must replace the damaged file with a valid working version. If a working version cannot be found the user may perform a reinstallation of their operating system.
