The ntdsapi.dll file is related to the ntdsa.dll module which is the DSA (Directory System Agent) used to provide the interfaces through which the directory clients and other directory servers gain access to the directory database.
The ntdsapi.dll module contains all the functions used to enable the directory services setup remote protocol to retrieve information. This is implemented in relation to the NTDS object which provides statistics about the activity of the active directory.
The NTDS object provides information about the NSPI (Name Service Provider Interface), the LSA (Local Security Authority), the SAM (Security Accounts Manager), the DSA (Directory System Agent), and the KCC (Knowledge Consistency Checker).
The ntdsapi.dll file has been a part of the Windows operating system since Windows XP and Windows server 2003 and was developed for their Windows time service.
