What is a DLL?
Dynamic Link Library (DLL) files contain computer code and resources that can be used by several programs at the same time. DLL files give program developers the ability to reuse code to add features to multiple programs without the need to write new code for each program.
There are many programs that rely on DLL files to function properly so when there is a corrupted or missing DLL it will cause program crashes and poor system performance.
What is printui.dll?
Printui.dll contains functions to install a printer through the command line and is the management tool for printing on Windows NT and newer Windows operating systems. The printui.dll when used with scripts or batch files is used to automate printer configuration functions by the system. Printui.dll is responsible for system actions such as add a new printer, delete an existing printer, add a per-machine connection, and remove a per-machine connection.
Add a new printer installs a remote printer on the computer which allows the printer to be visible and used by the user account that ran the command. Add a per-machine connection will make the printer visible and usable by all accounts on the machine. The remove per-machine connection will make the printer only useable by the account that did the installation rather than every account on the machine and delete an existing printer removes the printer from the machine.
