query.dll Error Information

What is a DLL?

DLL stands for Dynamic Link Library and it is a file containing computer code and resources that can used by several programs at the same time. DLL files allow program developers to use the same code with several programs to add new features without having to start over for each program.

DLL files that are corrupt or missing will cause poor the programs that rely on them to crash and that will cause poor system performance.

 What is query.dll?

Query.dll is an important part of the Microsoft Indexing Service. Query.dll works as a filter that reads a file’s format using Ifilter. Ifilter is the protocol which is used to read information and text from a file. Windows 2000 and Windows XP included a specific set of Ifilters covering various files written in several different applications.

When the user launches a search the query.dll uses the main index and word list to search the catalogs for the desired word or combination of words. Query.dll creates a list of file names and information on the system and network which makes it fast and efficient.

This allows users to quickly find files and their contents and supports local and remote network hosts. This module can also pull text and author information so no matter where the selected file is it’s content can still be extracted in the indexing service.
