samlib.dll Error Fix
What is a DLL?
DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files contain computer code and resources that can be used by multiple programs at the same time to perform similar functions. This uses less system memory and makes your computer fun more efficiently. DLL files give program developers the ability to reuse code to add features to several programs without the need to write all new code for each one.
There are many programs that rely on DLL files to function so when one is corrupted or missing it causes program crashes and poor system performance.
What is samlib.dll?
Samlib.dll is a part of the Security Accounts Manager (SAM) which is a database which is a secured area of the Windows NT registry. This database stores the user’s passwords in a hashed format to provide a measure of security for the stored passwords. Hashing is the transformation of a string of characters into a usually shorter fixed-length value or key that represents the original string. Hashing is used to index and retrieve items in a database because it is faster to find the item using the shorter hashed key than to find it using the original value. It is also used in many encryption algorithms.
Both samlib.dll and samsrv.dll are used to read from and write to the SAM database when an application uses the Windows API (Application Programing Interface). The application in turn make an API call in order to create, delete, edit, or update a selected user or group in the SAM database. The samlib.dll is equipped with the SYSKEY utility to enhance its defense against offline software cracking. This file and utility cannot be moved or copied while Windows is running. Samlib.dll can also be found on servers running Windows Server 2003 or newer that stores user accounts and security descriptors for users on the local computer.
