fix for shlwapi.dll errors

What is a DLL?

Dynamic Link Library (DLL) files contain computer code and resources that can be used by multiple programs to achieve a similar goal, for example the print function. This uses less system memory and makes your system more efficient. DLL files give program developers the ability to reuse code to add features to several programs without the need to write all new code for each one.

There are many programs that require DLL files to function so when one is damaged or missing it will cause program crashes and poor system performance.

What is shlwapi.dll?

Shlwapi.dll contains the functions for UNC and URL paths, registry entries, and color settings. Shlwapi.dll is a part of the Shell Light-Weight API (Application Programming Interface) and it provides a large number of utility functions which are commonly required by Windows programs. Originally this DLL came with Internet Explorer as a free download but starting with Windows 98 it comes as part of the core Windows operating system.

The application shlwapi.dll comes with both ANSI and Unicode support and its functions can be broken down into four categories. String manipulation, path manipulation, registry access, and miscellaneous functions. ANSI functions have the drawback that they can only deal with 8-bit character sets while Unicode functions support virtually every character used. Using the Unicode version of shlwapi.dll guarantees the developers that their code will run on every PC and every recent version of Windows.

The shlwapi.dll string functions are primarily designed to give C programmers enhanced versions of what they already have available in their C++ run-time libraries. This file is a stockpile of useful functions and appears to be Microsoft’s dumping ground for functions without a better home. Shlwapi.dll packs a large amount of useful functionality into its APIs and it grants the user unified methods for working with files and file paths.
