winhttp.dll Error Fix

What is a DLL?

DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files contain computer code and resources that can be used by multiple programs at the same time. This uses less system memory and helps your computer system run more efficiently. DLL files give program developers the ability to reuse code to add features to several programs without the need to write new code for each program.

There are many programs that require DLL files to function properly so when one of them is damaged or missing it will cause program crashes and poor system performance.

What is winhttp.dll?

The Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is a protocol used to request and transmit files, especially web pages and web service components, over the internet or a computer network. HTTP can be imposed on top of any other protocol on the internet or any local networks. The file winhttp.dll is an application supporting the Microsoft HTTP interface and was designed and developed to provide the client side of HTTP functions to server programs.

The winhttp.dll file is associated with the application WinINet which is an HTTP API (Application Programming Interface) designed to allow the use of interactive message dialogs. The winhttp.dll module is the opposite of the module WinINet in that is finds use in non-interactive message dialogs used in service based programs where no user interaction is required or needed.

The winhttp.dll application can be accessed using either the Win32 API set or a COM interface. The winhttp.dll DLL version 5.1.2600.2180 is an Operating System level component of Windows 2000 SP3 except its Datacenter Server, Windows XP SP1 and Windows Server 2003 SP1. Like the WinINet, the winhttp.dll file references the underlying Sockets Interface and Emulator to tap the network systems of the Windows operating system.
