AdSlime – As The Name Implies!
AdSlime is another in the line of adware applications out there that are out to get you to buy loads of their goods, as evidenced by the sheer number of popups and popunders that appear continuously on your machine after it takes up residence there. AdSlime installs itself using a number of randomly chosen names, thus making it very difficult to ferret out, unless you know exactly what you’re doing.
AdSlime can be very dangerous to your computer as it can not only inundate you with ads, it can usher in all sorts of other, more malicious spyware and adware that do a lot more damage than AdSlime itself can. AdSlime monitors your browsing habits and delivers up third party ads based on your surfing habits, or in the absence of that information, sometimes very objectionable material, such as pornographic images.
It can also take root not only in the form of popups and popunders, but as a toolbar, contextual ads within the sidebars, and search results pages. Indeed, adware like this can often hijack the entire searching process, delivering up only the results it would have you see.
AdSlime can and does change browser settings, reconfigure your browser homepage, and generally make your computer sluggish and unresponsive.
Figuring out what to do about AdSlime is less straightforward. Finding and deleting all the attendant files associated with AdSlime is a very dicey enterprise. Not only does it do a great job of disguising itself, you are very likely to delete a file that is necessary to the efficient operation of your PC in the process.
You will be much better off using a software solution to deal with this problem. A good antispyware software save you time and possibly errors in getting rid of this pest. The best I know of is ZookaWare PC Cleaner, which comes with a 100% spyware removal guarantee.
