Search Scout Toolbar is a browser add-on bundled with spyware software created by Claria. Claria, once known as GAIN and Gator, was a spyware creation company that received a lot of scrutiny. Eventually, after several class action complaints, Claria closed its doors and shut down its business. Despite this, the spyware programs created by Claria still infect the Internet and pose a hazard to computer users. Claria entered into a partnership with Yahoo with the Search Scout Toolbar until Yahoo discovered that it was malware.
Search Scout Toolbar goes under the pretense of being a browsing assistant program. Although it isn’t a spyware program in its own right, it is bundled with spyware software. Claria’s End User Licensing Agreement is never seen by the user unless they specifically ask to see it. According to the EULA from Claria, by downloading Search Scout Toolbar, the user will agree to let Claria scan their computer for browsing history data and that they will take pop-up advertisements from Claria. Claria also makes it known in the EULA that deleting the spyware components by using an antispyware program or other forcible method is prohibited and will render the toolbar useless. They say that using the Add/Remove Programs function should be used to remove Search Scout Toolbar.
While Add/Remove Programs will effectively remove Search Scout Toolbar, it will not remove the spyware software it came with. There will still be pop-up ads. To finish the uninstallation process, you should use a powerful antispyware program to get rid of the spyware. ZookaWare PC Cleaner is the best program for this task.
