PersonalProtector Removal Instructions

Finding a rogue security application like PersonalProtector on a computer can be a very frustrating experience, indeed.  These programs are not designed to protect you at all, despite their names.  Rather, they are a scheme to make it look as if the computer has been infested with malware, to try to fool the owner into buying useless “fixes” for the nonexistent “problems.”  PersonalProtector belongs to the family of these untrustworthy rogue security
applications.

The PersonalProtector program will even mimic actual security notifications, like those normally sent from Windows Security Center, with faked messages.  It will use these to erroneously state the presence of some viruses and other forms of malware.  Again, none of this is real.  PersonalProtector is simply trying to con the computer user, and should be completely removed from a computer at the first opportunity.

Manual Removal Instructions:

Some people are confident enough in their computer skills to try to remove PersonalProtector manually.  In order to do this, the first task that must be completed is to kill this process:
personalprotector.exe un.exe

Next, delete each of these registry values:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Printers\DevModePerUser
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Printers\DevModePerUser
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Personal Protector
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Personal Protector
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run “personalprotector”
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce “suicide”

Remember to unregister this DLL:
inetprovider.dll

Be sure to delete each of these files:
base.wdb baseadd.wdb conf.wcf personalprotector.exe quarant.wdb queue.wdb un.exe tempfile2.bat inetprovider.dll Personal Protector.lnk Uninstall.lnk

And finally, delete all of these directories:
C:\Program Files\Personal Protector
C:\Program Files\Personal Protector\q
c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Microsoft PData
%UserProfile%\Start Menu\Programs\Personal Protector

While manual removal can remove PersonalProtector, remember that it is not a guarantee that additional problems will not persist.  There could be another attack by PersonalProtector, or other problems could arise.  Choosing an antispyware program can help to remove all of these issues, and keep them away.

I am very pleased with this product. The price was great and I could find no fault with it at all. The reviews I had read about SpyZooka was why I made the decision to purchase it and I’m glad I did! SpyZooka is the right kind of security I need.
