SubSearch/HighTraffic Adware Profile

SubSearch/HighTraffic is a variation of the SubSearch adware program, which has several variations itself.  It can be transmitted to your system from various advertising websites by an ActiveX drive-by download from pop-up ads by AdScholar.  It is set to run every time Internet Explorer is started.  It detects when the user is viewing one of several search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN.  When the user is on one of these search engines, SubSearch/HighTraffic generates a side bar of “enhanced results” consisting only of paid advertisements.

It also generates pop-up advertisements, silently updates itself, and can install arbitrary software on your computer.  They are apparently affiliated with Ah-Ha and .In, and the source is popunder.info, and the controlling server is www.hightrafficads.com.  While not a particularly hazardous adware program, SubSearch/HighTraffic is an annoyance.

Many adware removal programs seem to be inconsistent in their ability to remove this program.  This is probably due to its update feature, which creates different versions of SubSearch/HighTraffic.  ZookaWare PC Cleaner is proven to be able to consistently and effectively remove SubSearch/HighTraffic.
