Themeadp Is an Irritation in Chinese

Themeadp is an adware program that was created presumably in China. This is assumed because all of the advertisements are in Chinese. It has been around a while, and has gone by many names.

Originally, the program that was eventually to be known as Themeadp was first spotted in November of 2005. At the time, it was known as the Borlan adware program. It went through several revisions until it was released as Themeadp in February of 2007.

Other names Themeadp has gone by include Boran, MMSAssist, Agent.aeb, and GFE. There are also updated versions of most of these programs, including .a or .b tags. By whatever name or version, they all do the same thing.

Themeadp hides out on your computer disguised as a browser helper object. It can target Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. When the infection starts, the current browsing window shuts down, and you begin to get pop ups when you surf. These pop ups are mostly in Chinese, so it may have come from China.

Themeadp also runs constantly in the background, and periodically installs updates from its web server. This constant activity is a waste of your virtual memory. It will cause your computer to run more slowly, and some programs will even crash from it, particularly your Internet browsers.

Themeadp also has a start up program that runs when you reboot the computer. During start up, you will receive error messages, showing that this program is already at work. Some computers with less RAM will crash in this event.

All in all, there is nothing redeemable about Themeadp. It generates annoying pop ups that many people can’t read. It causes your computer to run slower, and it may even crash. It’s best to just get rid of it.
