fix for browser.dll errors

What is a DLL?

A DLL (Dynamic Link Library) is a file that contains computer code and resources that can be used by several programs at the same time. DLL files give program developers the ability to reuse code for several programs without having to write new code for each program.

There are many programs that depend on DLL files to function properly so when a DLL file is corrupt or missing it creates system errors that can lead to poor system performance.

What is browser.dll?

Browser.dll is a module that functions with the Computer Browser Service which provides a complete list of domain and workgroup names that are accessible across the WAN (wide-area-network). The list provided by the DLL also includes the protocols associated with each computer on the network.

Browser.dll is responsible for the information that is available when you access the Network Neighborhood interface in Windows explorer.

Browser.dll maintains an updated list of computers on the network and supplies the list to computers designated as browsers. Browser.dll is launched by svchost.exe but is listed under it’s own file name in your task manager.

Browser.dll is an application that is required to run at the startup of the computer so it is recommended that you do not force close or stop this application as any programs that require it will not open.

Suggested fix if you are receiving browser.dll error messages:

Browser.dll is a vital part of the Windows operating system and should never be manually modified, stopped, or deleted. If this DLL becomes corrupt or is deleted it is recommended that you perform a clean installation of your operating system.
